Gilbert Martinez co-produces film in 48 hours
Instructional Tech/Lab Manager, Science, Gilbert Martinez recently participated in the Seattle True Independent Film Fest's 48-hour film challenge.  He co-produced,
directed and crewed the production of the film.  The challenge is to produce a movie in a two day period.  Participants receive a random prop, genre, line of dialogue, and a character to develop their film idea.  A script is developed, a movie is produced and edited -- all in a 48-hour period.  Martinez's film, Le Vegetable, along with other film entries, will play on the big screen from 12:15 to 2 p.m., Saturday, June 2nd at the Central Cinema; and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, June 3rd at the Seattle Art Museum's theater.  It was already shown at the Jewel Box on May 25th and well received.  Awards will be based on audience votes.  Awards will be given out Sunday at 7pm at SAM.

The genre given to Martinez and his team was "A Very Pretentious Art Movie."  The prop was an extension cord; the line of dialog was "Just impeach the (naughty word); the character was V. Galaconalison, a fruit and vegetable specialist.  John Nold, an SCC audio engineering graduate and SCC's interim theater manager, worked on the Folley, automatic dialogue replacement (ADR), sound and the final audio mix.  Brad Laina, a current audio engineering student, also worked on the Folley and ADR.  Another audio engineering student, Dave Green, created "an amazing original music score," says Martinez.  Sheryl White, an SCC video production student and video editing work-study, also worked on the crew.  She takes classes from Tony Doupé and Jane WinslowDan Helke, the husband of Jeanne Helke, also worked on the production.

Gilbert has studied filmmaking in the past and worked on many movie sets over the last five years, working alongside film school instructors, graduates and Hollywood veterans.  He has taken beginning video editing at SCC and is presently enrolled in the advanced class.  He has also been taking audio engineering classes over the last couple of years at SCC.  Gilbert teaches a movie making class each quarter at the UW's Experimental College with Nils Osmar, who also co-produced this 48-hour challenge film.

The group will participate in a national challenge in July.  Congrats to all!
