MESSAGE FROM THE VP OF HUMAN RESOURCES
RE: NOVEMBER 2 WALKOUT
There has been much discussion amongst our colleagues regarding joining the
National Education Association (NEA) in Oakland, California in adopting a
resolution to support a student/staff/faculty walkout on November 2. The
following message, reviewed by the Office of the Attorney General, Education
Division, clearly states our position as a college on this issue.
Shoreline Community College neither
supports nor opposes the political message espoused by those faculty and/or

to activities that disrupt the educational program. Faculty members
participating in the walk-out will be expected to provide coverage for their
classes or to arrange to teach their classes at an alternate time that works
for their students. Staff and
administrators should receive prior approval from their supervisors of their
planned absence. If you have
additional questions, please contact the VP of Human Resources Paulette
Fleming at pflemin@shoreline.edu.

The campus community is invited to join members of the College Jewish
Student Union to participate in the tradition of Sukkot, the last of three

desert, living in temporary shelters after leaving Egypt. A small Sukkah has
been built and placed on the landing above the FOSS steps to honor Sukkot.
Students, faculty, staff and administrators are invited to stop by the
Sukkah, where all are equal, for conversation.

ENROLLMENT AND BUDGET UPDATE
As of October 24, 2005, the College’s enrollment numbers stood at 175
quarterly FTE’s less than this same time last year. At this time, we
anticipate that we will continue to see a drop in enrollment from last
year for the next two quarters a drop in enrollment from last year. This
decrease translates to approximately a $500,000 additional tuition shortfall
than was projected and shared with the campus in September. A Budget
Committee has been established to guide the President’s Leadership Team in
making decisions regarding additional budget reductions. At the Board
meeting on October 26, EVP Bev Brandt outlined the process that the Budget
Committee will undertake to review the alternatives for additional budget
reductions. This information will be shared at the all-campus meeting
