COMBINED FUND DRIVE (CFD) IS A
WORKPLACE GIVING PROGRAM
The CFD at Shoreline Community College has raised over 25,000
dollars last year alone. This outpouring of compassion is
another fine example of working together “the Washington Way” to
better the lives of others. Last year, the CFD focused on
encouraging donors to make their pledges through the payroll
deduction program. We know that gifts made through this
convenient method are especially appreciated by non-profit
organizations and aid them in planning their ongoing charitable
activities. This year, the CFD hopes to increase participation,
especially through payroll deductions.
It takes just a few minutes to sign up. Changes can be made
anytime. All donations are kept confidential. www.cfd.wa.gov
provides secure 24 hour access to your charitable giving
account. Convenient payroll deductions are available and one
time donations are welcome. Even a small donation can have
a big impact. For example, $5 each month for a year can
provide: 188 pounds of food, a daily nourishing meal for 20
children in Third World Countries, 100 cedar trees for habitat
restorations; five nights at an emergency shelter, 21 hours of
adult reading lessons.
Please go to www.cfd.wa.gov to make a donation and for more
information or contact Debbie Sherman in Human Resources at

ISS CLUB PRESENTS 'WATER'
Wednesday, November 28 at 1 pm in Room 1813
'Water' is about a young girl who is married to a much older, sickly man
through an arranged marriage. The husband then dies and the widow chooses to
live in a temple amongst other widows. In the past, Hindu widows often had
to choose from either marrying a brother of the husband, dying on the
funeral pyre with the corpse, or living in seclusion amongst other widows.
The director's synopsis is given as: Set in 1938 Colonial India, against
Mahatma Gandhi's rise to power, 'Water' begins when eight-year-old Chuyia is
widowed and sent to a home where Hindu widows must live in penitence.
Chuyia’s feisty presence affects the lives of the other residents, including
a young widow, who falls for a Gandhian idealist. For more information about
