COLLEGE CLOSED TODAY - CLASSES CANCELLED
Wednesday, November 29
Due to icy conditions on the College campus, particularly in the parking
areas, day and evening classes have been cancelled today. All other
activities on campus are also cancelled. All operations are closed.
Please know that it is an extremely difficult decision to cancel
classes. The decision is based on whether the College can ensure a safe
environment for our students and staff while they are on campus. We
monitor several weather reports during the day and stay in touch with our
neighboring colleges and school districts prior to making a decision.
Our college facilities are extremely challenging to clear of ice and snow.
There are many unprotected walkways and stairs and outlying parking lots.
We thank you for your understanding.

SCC'S INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS RANKS 34TH IN
THE NATION
SCC's International Programs student enrollment was ranked 34th among U.S.
community colleges in 2005-06. The Open Doors
annual is the premier international education report published by the
Institute of International Education. The report closely monitors
national enrollment trends. Enrollment in the previous year put SCC into the
top #40
for the first time ever; this year, the College climbed to #34.
While the state of Washington saw a 5% increase in its international student
population, SCC experienced a 10% increase. According to the report,
international students contributed nearly $257 million to the state of
Washington; of this amount, SCC international students contributed over $13
million to the state.
International enrollment stabilized nationally after a two year decline
following 09/11. Educators have worried about enrollment amidst stringent
visa and immigration regulations and competition from other countries
wanting to attract international students. In 2005-2006, international
students contributed $13.5 billion to the U.S. economy.

In 2005-2006, international
students contributed $13.5 billion to the U.S. economy.

date), January 12, February 16, and March 16.
PROPOSAL FOR RENAMING FACILITIES (PUB)
Friday, November 17
At the College Council Meeting on Tuesday, November 7, the students
brought forward a proposal to change the name of the PUB. Please see the
attached Policy 3802 which specifies that the Board of Trustees has the
authority to assign the names to campus buildings. In the procedural guidelines, proposals for names for buildings must be
submitted to the "College Cabinet by its second meeting in November."
The cabinet would review the proposal to determine if the proposal meets
the criteria; if so, the cabinet calls for an all-campus vote (all full-time
and part-time students and employees). Please read the rest of the policy
for full details on the procedure.
If you have a proposal for a name for the PUB, please send your proposal
to Michele Foley by Friday, November 17, for inclusion on the College

******* NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS *******
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
President Lambert would like to announce that the search committees for
the VP of Administrative Services and VP of Human Resources will delay
their work until the academic year 2007-08. A search will proceed for
the VP of Academic Affairs as planned in this current year.
Recommendations from several constituent groups on
campus were presented to the president regarding the search process.
Due to the additional workload presented to the College this year (i.e.
Strategic Planning, Accreditation, and Enrollment Management), it was
recommended that these searches be delayed to allow this work to be
completed.
Additionally,
the SCC Federation has voted to open their contract to limited
negotiations this year. In order to maintain continuity in the
process, the president decided to delay the hiring of the two
members of his leadership team. More information will be
communicated as it becomes available

College Activities
Calendar accessible by clicking on the Calendar button at the top of
this page. The Activities Calendar is a handy reference for "things going on
around the campus."
STUDENT EMAIL AND E-NEWSLETTER LAUNCHED
Thanks to the work of TSS' Gavin Smith, we have launched a
communications system with our current students. Beginning this week,
PIO will send a weekly email that will go to our current students directing
them to the
Week Ahead e-newsletter. Students have given us feedback that
they simply "don't know what's happening on campus." Hopefully, this
will be means for students to get up-to-date information on key events on
campus, critical reminders about registration, and access to resources.
Please be sure that you send PIO information that you wish to go to student
using the DAAG Submission form. If you have questions, please contact
Judy Yu at jyu@shoreline.edu.
MEETING ROOM CRUNCH - YOUR HELP NEEDED
The meeting room scheduling crunch is thriving at SCC. In Building
1000, all three meeting rooms are in constant use, with little time to
re-arrange tables, chairs and space for different needs. Please help
us by making sure you have completed a Work Request Form (ext. 4661) and
submitted it to Facilities in advance of your meeting. Work requests
can include set-up and take-down on the same form. Noting that you are
serving food on the Work Request is much appreciated by the facilities staff
because they can place extra trash cans and be alerted to food clean-up. mfoley@shoreline.edu
