To supplement professional development allocations, Holly Moore is designating funds from the president's contingency budget to eligible recipients who will be presenting at state, regional, national or international conferences. The funds will be available on a "first come first served" basis and the amount will vary from year to year. Recipients will be asked to provide a brief report to DAAG, A Class Act and Soundings.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AND GLOBALIZATION
IN LATIN AMERICA: CONTRASTING EXPERIENCES FROM NICARAGUA AND BRAZIL
Thursday, June 2 at 7:00 pm in the PUB Dining Room
Presenting Fulbright Scholars-in-Residence Drs. Maria Acosta (Nicaragua)
and Eduardo Gomes (Brazil) will give their views on the contrasting
experiences from these two countries. What are the motivations for
economic, social, and political development in these countries? What
are the advantages and disadvantages of corporate involvement in social
policy? FREE to the public.

Get started in an online classroom in Blackboard, the software that SCC uses for its online, hybrid, and web-enhanced classes (web-enhanced refers to a face-to-face class with a supplemental online component). We also will discuss course design and organization. If you are interested in using Blackboard as a tool for teaching or are fairly new at using it, this workshop is for you. FEED A BODY. FEED A MIND.
The Pi Iota Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at Shoreline
Community College is participating in Project Graduation…Feed a Body, Feed a
Mind, an initiative designed to help alleviate hunger and illiteracy in our
community. All Students, Staff and Faculty are asked to bring
non-perishable food items or books to the campus starting on Tuesday, May
17, 2005. Donation drop-off sites will be positioned at the following
locations: The Pub, the Administration (1000) Building, the entrance to the
Campus Bookstore on the lower level of the Foss (5000) Building, the second
floor of the Foss (5000) Building near Enrollment Services, the entrance to
the faculty offices on the upper (3rd) floor of the Foss Building, and the
entrance of the Library.
Project Graduation…Feed a Body, Feed a Mind will continue through the end of
Spring Quarter, and will officially conclude on the first day of Summer
Quarter, Monday, June 20, 2005. All the books and canned goods collected
will be given to Northwest Harvest (http://www.northwestharvest.org/)
and the Seattle Education Access (http://www.seattleeducationaccess.org)

TESTING CENTER UPDATES
The Testing Center is adding to the services we provide. We are now offering a keyboarding speed test by appointment during the COMPASS test times for a fee of $15. We will be offering HOBET for Dental Hygiene applicants and TOEFL the internet version beginning September 2005. HOBET will be offered by appointment during the COMPASS test times for a $40 fee and TOEFL will be available on some Saturdays, the schedule is not yet available from TOEFL the proctor fee will be $25. If you have questions feel free to call us at x4608.

ALL-ALL CAMPUS MEETING TODAY

The members of the Campus Climate Task force will be hosting the All-Campus meeting today at 12:30 p.m. in the PUB Grand Ballroom. This will be an informational meeting to update the campus community on the progress of the Task Force to date. They will present preliminary information about the results of the Climate Questionnaire that was delivered via DAAG in April, give a timeline for our future activities, and share the framework for an action plan addressing campus issues related to the teaching, learning, working environment and management style for college employees and students, to be presented to President Holly Moore and the Board Of Trustees.

new life into the greatest love story ever told, Shakespeare's
Romeo and Juliet. Set in late 1950s New York, it electrified a
contemporary audience with its tale of idealistic lovers torn apart by gang
violence and racial strife. Based on a conception of Jerome Robbins,
book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein with lyrics by Stephen
Sondheim. Greg Morales, director, Susan Dolacky, producer/musical

EXCEPTIONAL FACULTY AWARD NOMINATION
Nominations are due TODAY!
Shoreline administrator, alumni, classified employee, faculty member, foundation board member, student or trustee may nominate an eligible faculty member for consideration.
Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, an individual faculty member being considered must have the equivalent of nine (9) quarters of full- or part-time work as a teacher, advisor/counselor, librarian, or program chair. A recipient of an individual award will not be eligible to receive another individual award for a period of five (5) years.
To be eligible for a group award, the members of the group must have a combined equivalent of eighteen (18) quarters of full- or part-time work as a teacher, advisor/counselor, librarian, or program chair. In addition, group awards shall be used to cover expenses related to activities undertaken by or for the group. No individual shall receive a monetary award. As a group, these award recipients will not be eligible to receive another group award for a period of five (5) years.

The Pi Iota Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at Shoreline
Community College is participating in Project Graduation…Feed a Body, Feed a
Mind, an initiative designed to help alleviate hunger and illiteracy in our
community. All Students, Staff and Faculty are asked to bring
non-perishable food items or books to the campus starting on Tuesday, May
17, 2005. Donation drop-off sites will be positioned at the following
locations: The Pub, the Administration (1000) Building, the entrance to the
Campus Bookstore on the lower level of the Foss (5000) Building, the second
floor of the Foss (5000) Building near Enrollment Services, the entrance to
the faculty offices on the upper (3rd) floor of the Foss Building, and the
entrance of the Library.
Project Graduation…Feed a Body, Feed a Mind will continue through the end of
Spring Quarter, and will officially conclude on the first day of Summer
Quarter, Monday, June 20, 2005. All the books and canned goods collected

The members of the Campus Climate Task force will be hosting the All-Campus meeting on May 27, 2005 at 12:30 p.m. in the PUB Grand Ballroom. This will be an informational meeting to update the campus community on the progress of the Task Force to date. They will present preliminary information about the results of the Climate Questionnaire that was delivered via DAAG in April, give a timeline for our future activities, and share the framework for an action plan addressing campus issues related to the teaching, learning, working environment and management style for college employees and students, to be presented to President Holly Moore and the Board Of Trustees.
To supplement professional development allocations, Holly Moore is designating funds from the president's contingency budget to eligible recipients who will be presenting at state, regional, national or international conferences. The funds will be available on a "first come first served" basis and the amount will vary from year to year. Recipients will be asked to provide a brief report to DAAG, A Class Act and Soundings. EXCEPTIONAL FACULTY AWARD NOMINATION
Shoreline administrator, alumni, classified employee, faculty member, foundation board member, student or trustee may nominate an eligible faculty member for consideration.
Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, an individual faculty member being considered must have the equivalent of nine (9) quarters of full- or part-time work as a teacher, advisor/counselor, librarian, or program chair. A recipient of an individual award will not be eligible to receive another individual award for a period of five (5) years.
To be eligible for a group award, the members of the group must have a combined equivalent of eighteen (18) quarters of full- or part-time work as a teacher, advisor/counselor, librarian, or program chair. In addition, group awards shall be used to cover expenses related to activities undertaken by or for the group. No individual shall receive a monetary award. PHI THETA KAPPA RECEIVES
THE 2004 PINNACLE SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
The Pi Iota Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at Shoreline
Community College has been awarded the distinguished 2004 Pinnacle
Scholarship Award trophy. The Pinnacle Scholarship Award Program recognizes
Phi Theta Kappa chapters and regions for successfully enhancing their
recruitment and orientation strategies, as measured by the number of new
members reported to Headquarters in a given year. Shoreline Community
College’s Pi Iota Chapter achieved the Gold Level status in this program…and
the trophy…by consecutively increasing its membership by at least 10% for
the years 2002, 2003 and 2004. The award was presented to the Pi Iota
Chapter at the Phi Theta Kappa National Convention, held last month in
Dallas, Texas.

THE 2004 PINNACLE SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
The Pi Iota Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at Shoreline
Community College has been awarded the distinguished 2004 Pinnacle
Scholarship Award trophy. The Pinnacle Scholarship Award Program recognizes
Phi Theta Kappa chapters and regions for successfully enhancing their
recruitment and orientation strategies, as measured by the number of new
members reported to Headquarters in a given year. Shoreline Community
College’s Pi Iota Chapter achieved the Gold Level status in this program…and
the trophy…by consecutively increasing its membership by at least 10% for
the years 2002, 2003 and 2004. The award was presented to the Pi Iota
Chapter at the Phi Theta Kappa National Convention, held last month in
Dallas, Texas.

The Pi Iota Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at Shoreline
Community College is participating in Project Graduation…Feed a Body, Feed a
Mind, an initiative designed to help alleviate hunger and illiteracy in our
community. All Students, Staff and Faculty are asked to bring
non-perishable food items or books to the campus starting on Tuesday, May
17, 2005. Donation drop-off sites will be positioned at the following
locations: The Pub, the Administration (1000) Building, the entrance to the
Campus Bookstore on the lower level of the Foss (5000) Building, the second
floor of the Foss (5000) Building near Enrollment Services, the entrance to
the faculty offices on the upper (3rd) floor of the Foss Building, and the

The Testing Center is adding to the services we provide. We are now offering a keyboarding speed test by appointment during the COMPASS test times for a fee of $15. We will be offering HOBET for Dental Hygiene applicants and TOEFL the internet version beginning September 2005. HOBET will be offered by appointment during the COMPASS test times for a $40 fee and TOEFL will be available on some Saturdays, the schedule is not yet available from TOEFL the proctor fee will be $25. EXCEPTIONAL FACULTY AWARD NOMINATION
Shoreline administrator, alumni, classified employee, faculty member, foundation board member, student or trustee may nominate an eligible faculty member for consideration.
Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, an individual faculty member being considered must have the equivalent of nine (9) quarters of full- or part-time work as a teacher, advisor/counselor, librarian, or program chair. A recipient of an individual award will not be eligible to receive another individual award for a period of five (5) years.
To be eligible for a group award, the members of the group must have a combined equivalent of eighteen (18) quarters of full- or part-time work as a teacher, advisor/counselor, librarian, or program chair. In addition, group awards shall be used to cover expenses related to activities undertaken by or for the group. No individual shall receive a monetary award. As a group, these award recipients will not be eligible to receive another group award for a period of five (5) years.

TESTING CENTER UPDATES
The Testing Center is adding to the services we provide. We are now offering a keyboarding speed test by appointment during the COMPASS test times for a fee of $15. We will be offering HOBET for Dental Hygiene applicants and TOEFL the internet version beginning September 2005. HOBET will be offered by appointment during the COMPASS test times for a $40 fee and TOEFL will be available on some Saturdays, the schedule is not yet available from TOEFL the proctor fee will be $25. Moore, a member of The Workforce Alliance Board, is attending their national
conference in Washington, D.C., today through Thursday, May 19. While
there, she will visit Senators Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray, and
Congressional Representatives Dave Reichert and Cathy McMorris to
re-emphasize the need to maintain funding for WIA, Reauthorization of the
Higher Education Act, TANF and Perkins funding.

SHORELINE "SPLASH" A SMASH!!
I attended the first annual "Shoreline Splash" event last Friday--it was
spectacular! This is the event not to miss. Congratulations to
the students and planners of this event!. I encourage all staff to
support this event and plan to attend next year. "Shoreline Splash" is
a wonderful salute to the talent and diversity that exemplifies Shoreline!
