MESSAGE FROM
THE INTERIM VP OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS JOHN BACKES
This spring a Reorganization Task Force was asked to evaluate
the structure of the Instructional Division and to make
recommendations that would improve our effectiveness and
efficiency. Several memos related to their work have been
issued by the task force to the campus.
The
recommendations that have been forwarded by the Reorganization
Task Force, and which I agree would improve the working
efficiency of the instructional areas, have been reviewed. As
VP of Academic Affairs, I am communicating directly with
individuals who may be impacted by our restructuring decisions
and with those who may also be indirectly affected. These
decisions will also be reviewed by the President's Leadership
Team. The Reorganization Task Force will then be reconvened to
review the final decisions and their rationale. At this time,
the Deans will also be invited to participate in the
discussion. A full announcement with the criteria, decisions
and rationale will then be communicated to the campus community
through the listserves and DAAG. This is expected sometime this
week.

Please reserve your space by contacting Distance Learning (dl@shoreline.edu

whom we wish the very best.
This is expected sometime this
week.

ONLINE COURSE DEVELOPMENT AWARDEES
Distance Learning Services sent out a RFP this spring quarter for the
development of online courses which currently are not part of SCC’s distance
learning course offerings. I am pleased to announce the following awardees:
• Vince Barnes, ESL 100, Academic ESL 3, 5 credits
• Steve Bogart, Math 211, Elements of Statistical Method, 5 credits
• Chip Dodd, GEOG 100, Introduction to Geography, 5 credits
• Bonnie Frunz, ENG 293, Credit for Prior Experiential Learning, 3
credits
• Steve Malott, MUSTC 101, Survey of Music Technology, 5 credits
• Steve Malott, MUSTC 249, Portfolio Development, 2 credits
• Donna Wilde, HCI 225, Computers in Health Care, 3 credits

used to evaluate the proposals. These faculty will receive 1/3 release time
for one quarter or an equivalent stipend to develop these 5 credit courses
online (or proportionately less for fewer credits). These courses were
chosen by the Deans and approved by Interim VPAA John Backes because they
enable the completion of online certificates, enrich the transfer
curriculum, meet student demand, and/or focus on niche programs. Please
contact Ann Garnsey-Harter,
agarnsey@shoreline.edu, for more information.

ONLINE COURSE DEVELOPMENT AWARDEES
Distance Learning Services sent out a RFP this spring quarter for the
development of online courses which currently are not part of SCC’s distance
learning course offerings. I am pleased to announce the following awardees:
• Vince Barnes, ESL 100, Academic ESL 3, 5 credits
• Steve Bogart, Math 211, Elements of Statistical Method, 5 credits
• Chip Dodd, GEOG 100, Introduction to Geography, 5 credits
• Bonnie Frunz, ENG 293, Credit for Prior Experiential Learning, 3
credits
• Steve Malott, MUSTC 101, Survey of Music Technology, 5 credits
• Steve Malott, MUSTC 249, Portfolio Development, 2 credits
• Donna Wilde, HCI 225, Computers in Health Care, 3 credits
We received just one application per online course, so a committee was not
used to evaluate the proposals.
