***** PREVIOUS ANNOUNCEMENTS *****

CAMPUS CLOSURE THIS FRIDAY
Friday, Aug. 4 (5 am) - Sunday, Aug. 6 (6pm)

All electrical power to the main campus will be discontinued for three days beginning Friday, Aug 4th at 5:00 am.  Power will be resumed on Sunday, Aug. 6th at 6:00 pm.  Asbestos located in the PUB must be removed over the weekend.  This abatement process is causing the College to shut down the power to the campus during this time. Lake Forest Park and the Campus Salon will be unaffected by this closure. Emergency power via gas-powered generators will keep the internet and the main phone line active.  You will have access to email and servers if you choose to work from a remote location.

Per the Suspended Operations memo dated November 15, 2005, classified staff should work with their immediate supervisor to either modify their work schedule and work 4 -10 hour days (Monday, July 31st through Thursday, August 3rd) or take approved leave (annual, compensatory, personal holiday, personal leave or leave without pay) where applicable.
Some critical issues to think about:
      1)  Are there any students or visitors who might be impacted by this closure?
If so, please let them know that they will need to make alternative
           plans for this time.
      2)  Computers, lamps, fans, fax machines, printers or other equipment using
electricity should be unplugged.  You don't want your equipment to be
the victim of a power surge.
      3)  Refrigerators and freezers will need to be cleaned out before next
Friday.  What a great excuse to get rid of "mystery items" in the fridge.

You are encouraged to contact your supervisor if you have questions
regarding the College closure.  We will give you additional information
as it becomes available.  Thanks for your understanding.

COLLEGE SURVEYS STUDENTS REGARDING MEDIA PREFERENCES
The College is executing a Media Preferences Survey with our students.  The purpose of the survey is to provide the Public Information Office (aka Marketing Office) with quantitative data on how people use the media, what they respond to, what they prefer - print vs. electronic, how much time do they spend with the media, etc.  It will be an interesting survey that will result in guidance in how the college should invest our marketing dollars efficiently and effectively in the future.

Students will be entered to win an IPOD SHUFFLE and and the first 100 students to respond will receive a $5 gift card to Starbucks.  (Sorry, this is for students only.)  Attached is a flyer that you can download and post by your door.  Thanks for your help.  Details are posted to the Current Students page.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING ASBESTOS ABATEMENT
To further clarify questions that staff may have regarding asbestos, we emphasize that our contractor has pledged to follow all of the abatement procedures they are legally required to follow as a state-licensed asbestos removal contractor.  This includes encapsulation whenever possible, surrounding the work area with plastic sheeting, etc.   By following these procedures, the risk to anyone downwind of the construction site is virtually non-existent.  The only ones with any appreciable risk are the workers themselves, not people walking by or in other buildings.  The WISHA asbestos WAC can be found at http://www.lni.wa.gov/wisha/rules/asbestos/Default.htm#WAC296-65-020 .
The College and the contractor have continually been monitoring the asbestos levels outside of the contained areas.  The levels of asbestos are virtually undetectable.  Please direct questions to Randy Stegmeier at x4503.
