LEGISLATIVE BRIEF
Via campus mail, all staff will receive
a copy of the 2005 SCC Legislative Overview. This information will be shared with our local legislators in Olympia so that they can make informed decisions during this upcoming session. The key message for legislators is to remind them of the unique role that community colleges play in our higher education system, the need to fund the Allied Health Sciences Building, the need for staff and faculty salary increases, and the continuing demand to increase the funding for enrollment. Please take a moment to review this information and share it with others who you might talk to. If you have questions, please contact Judy Yu x. 4634.

TECHNOLOGY PURCHASES -SOFTWARE,

hardware and software, which we hope to clarify. All technology purchase
requests, including Professional Development Funds, must first go through
Technology Support Services for review.

equipment and software standards, that it is inventoried properly and that
all software licenses are on file.
Technology equipment includes but is not limited to the following: PDA's,
all PC's, monitors, all software, laptops, printers, scanners, fax machines,
network devices, USB devices, and phones. Purchases for all media equipment
should go through the Media Center. If you have questions, please call
Dorothy Cirelli or Holly Woodmansee.

E-MAIL/NETWORK PROBLEMS
UPDATE
TSS reports that updated patches for our antivirus software have been installed on the College's servers last week as recommended by the vendor.
The patches became "unstable" on Friday as load increased on the system.
This caused a disruption in our email service. The systems are now up and running but some residual problems may occur in the future.
Call the TSS helpline at 5872 if you experience any further problems accessing the network or E-mail.

RECENT E-MAIL/NETWORK
PROBLEMS
TSS staff have isolated the recent problems with e-mail and local network
access to undocumented incompatibilities between a Microsoft security patch
and our anti-virus software. After two weeks of testing without incident on
non-critical systems, the security patch was applied to a primary
authentication server on the network. The incompatibles caused a number of
servers to randomly hang. TSS has disabled the antivirus software on the
authentication servers pending the release of updated vendor patches.
W-2 FORMS
W-2s for tax year 2004 will be mailed to employees by the end of January.
Because the W-2s are prepared by an outside company, we do not have an exact
date.
