Can anyone remember the photo display that was produced by the FACES Project? Funded through the Department of Education, the FACES Project’s mission was to use the transformative power of education to expand the opportunities available to immigrants and refugees, and to promote recognition of their contributions to our campus and our community. More information on the grant is posted with the photography display. The photography project premiered in the Shoreline Community College gallery in October, 2002, and has since been featured in schools and community centers around Shoreline and Lake Forest Park area. It is now available to view in the Library, downstairs adjacent to the computer lab. Come see these powerful images and read about a small sample of our students.

The Worldly Philosophers and Dismal Scientists Society, the Professional Development Program and the International Programs Office are pleased to partner with the World Affairs Council (WAC) to host an official WAC International Visitor Delegation at Shoreline Community College.

Members of the WAC International Visitors Delegation represent Algeria, Syria, Saudi Arabia and the West Bank. Their expertise is civic activism and social responsibility. The Services for Students with Disabilities program is missing 10 adjustable height/wheelchair tables. These are critical to providing accommodations to students with disabilities. These tables are expensive and easy to mistake as classroom/office furniture. If you have or have seen one please call us at extension 4545 and we will come pick it up –no questions asked. These tables are approximately 19” X 30”. Some are all black with a lip across the top edge and some have a wood grain Formica top. Both types are on metal legs with wheels and are adjustable in height.

The Transfer Student Tutoring Office has move to the Student Programs Office in the PUB, Room 952. We offer tutoring assistance and employment opportunities for students. Our office provides up to two hours per week per subject of free tutoring for students requesting help with transfer courses. Tutors are paid between $7.50 and $8.40 per hour, and both students and non-students may be hired as tutors. Please encourage your students to take advantage of this valuable opportunity to support their academic success. Get started in an online classroom in Blackboard, the software that SCC uses for its online, hybrid, and web-enhanced classes (web-enhanced refers to a face-to-face class with a supplemental online component). HONOR RECITAL

FULBRIGHT FACULTY WORKSHOP
Friday, February 13 from 9-11am at South Seattle Community College, Brockey Center, JMB
Debra Egan, assistant director of the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES), offers a workshop on the Fulbright Program for Faculty and Professionals. Learn about lecturing and research opportunities in 140 countries; get advice on which country to apply to and making contacts abroad; learn how to prepare the Fulbright application; and explore how your campus can host visiting foreign Fulbright scholars. No charge for the workshop. Fulbright campus representatives and interested faculty are encouraged to attend. Please contact Susan Sharp at

If the net amount of your regular paycheck has changed, consider several changes that have occurred in 2004 for federal tax, insurance premiums, and medaid (workers' comp). TEACHING ONLINE USING BLACKBOARD: GETTING STARTED
Monday, January 12 from 12:30-2:30 in Rm 4106
Get started in an online classroom in Blackboard, the software that SCC uses for its online, hybrid, and web-enhanced classes (web-enhanced refers to a face-to-face class with a supplemental online component). We also will discuss course design and organization. If you are interested in using Blackboard as a tool for teaching or are fairly new at using it, this workshop is for you.
