Can anyone remember the photo display that was
produced by the FACES Project? Funded through the
Department of Education, the FACES Projects mission
was to use the transformative power of education to
expand the opportunities available to immigrants and
refugees, and to promote recognition of their
contributions to our campus and our community. More
information on the grant is posted with the photography
display. The photography project premiered in the
Shoreline Community College gallery in October, 2002, and
has since been featured in schools and community centers
around Shoreline and Lake Forest Park area. It is now
available to view in the Library, downstairs adjacent to
the computer lab. Come see these powerful images and read
about a small sample of our students.

students with disabilities. These tables are expensive
and easy to mistake as classroom/office furniture. If you

These tables are approximately 19 X 30. Some
are all black with a lip across the top edge and some
have a wood grain Formica top. Both types are on metal
legs with wheels and are adjustable in height.

for students. Our office provides up to two hours per

and $8.40 per hour, and both students and non-students
may be hired as tutors. Please encourage your students to

USING BLACKBOARD: GETTING STARTED
Monday, January 12 from 12:30-2:30 in Rm 4106
Get started in an online classroom in
Blackboard, the software that SCC uses for its online,
hybrid, and web-enhanced classes (web-enhanced refers to
a face-to-face class with a supplemental online
component). We also will discuss course design and
organization. If you are interested in using Blackboard
as a tool for teaching or are fairly new at using it,
this workshop is for you. Please reserve your space by

HONOR RECITAL
Thursday, January 15 at 7:30 pm in the THEATER
Instrumental and vocal students selected for
outstanding fall quarter juries will be performing music
solos from the Renaissance to the 20th Century.
Performers are: Ayako Ishida, piano; Juliana
Brandon, soprano; Rico Martinez, classical guitar; Leo
Jackson, baritone; Sarah McAlinn, viola, Geam Lim, tenor,
Akira Yanagisawa, piano; Tiffany Lawrence, soprano;

Friday, February 13 from 9-11am at South Seattle
Community College, Brockey Center, JMB
Debra Egan, assistant director of the Council
for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES), offers a
workshop on the Fulbright Program for Faculty and
Professionals. Learn about lecturing and research
opportunities in 140 countries; get advice on which
country to apply to and making contacts abroad; learn how
to prepare the Fulbright application; and explore how
your campus can host visiting foreign Fulbright scholars.
No charge for the workshop. Fulbright campus
representatives and interested faculty are encouraged to
attend. Please contact Susan Sharp at ssharp@cies.iie.org. Space is limited, please RSVP
by Feb. 5th. Directions and parking:

are $1. Any logistical qustions, contact Mary Jo White at

federal tax, insurance premiums, and medaid (workers'
