The Commencement Committee has begun planning for this year's Commencement
ceremony that will take place on Sunday, June 10 at 2:00 pm in the SCC
Gymnasium. The College takes great pride in producing a commencement
ceremony that brings traditional "pomp and circumstance" together with
students, faculty and staff for a "final send off."
One great tradition the College maintains is asking students, faculty, and
an outside speaker to participate in the commencement proceedings. These
people speak to our graduates and bring their wisdom and thoughts to all of
us regarding the how the College has put them on their career path, where
education fits in our lives, etc. The speeches are always inspiring!

ROBBIE FULKS COUNTRY MUSIC PERFORMANCE
Saturday, February 17, 7:30pm, Shoreline Campus Theater/1600 Building
Robbie Fulks country music performance. Robbie Fulks still writes songs that
make you think and feel and sometimes laugh out loud, while most current
country recordings seem calculated to serve as inoffensive background music.
He's back with a new album Georgia Hard, aimed at country fans that wondered
where their music went. Eighty years ago, when country music was first
recorded, it was rude, funny, soulful and political. Robbie Fulks takes us
back to those forgotten values and reintroduces us to the literacy and
warped humor of songwriters like Shel Silverstein, Bob McDill and Roger
Miller.

CAMPUS VISIT RELATED TO ENVIRONMENTAL LEARNING,
SUSTAINABILITY & CIVIC ENGAGEMENT
Thursday, February 15, 10:30AM - 4:30PM, Room 1011M
On February 15, Jean MacGregor of the Washington Center for Improving the
Quality of Undergraduate Education at The Evergreen State College (a
state-wide consortium of which Shoreline Community College is a member) will
visit the College to meet faculty and staff involved with environmental
studies, sustainability, community-based learning, or service-learning and
civic engagement. With Jean’s leadership, the Washington Center is building
a "Curriculum for the Bioregion" initiative, an inter-institutional effort
whose goal is to engage more undergraduates in experiential learning related
to environment, community and sustainability.
Jean would like to meet those with
interests and ongoing work related to these topics -- in any discipline or
unit. She is interested in learning about what we are already
teaching/doing and also about what we aspire to in terms of enabling
students to live in a world where issues of environmental quality,
environmental justice, and sustainability will become increasingly
important.
If you can make some time to meet with Jean on February
15th, please contact Lori Yonemitsu, ext. 4552
lyonemitsu@shoreline.edu as
she will build Jean's schedule accordingly. Thank you.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Re; College Reorganization
At the last
College Council meeting held on Feb. 4th, I reviewed several
options with the Council regarding our process to develop reorganization
proposals. The Council has suggested a process that will be directed by the
President’s Leadership Team (PLT) with appropriate inputs from the Council,
the Budget Committee, and the campus.
For
the past two years, we have had to make structural changes to the College in
response to our budget concerns. The goal of every restructure change is to
improve the effectiveness of our administrative organizational structure
through:
 |
Improved
communications |
 |
Closer collaboration |
