Nancy Matesky and Gloria Swisher will be performing music for two pianos for Rob's Bigley’s Music 107 class in Room 818 at 10:30 this Friday, February 28. They will play the Romance from Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Suite No. 2 and Richard Rodney Bennett’s Suite for Two Pianos which includes Samba triste, Country blues, Ragtime waltz (Homage to Scott Joplin), and the Finale: Tempo di hard rock The campus is invited to attend. They will perform the same program at the Seattle Art Museum on Thursday, March 6 at 12:00 noon. The concert is free.

The annual Opera Workshop Performances features operatic scenes of four operas with piano accompaniment, and the one-act opera, Suor Angelica by Giacomo Puccini, performed with chamber orchestra. David Pitonyak present on ways in which people who experience disabilities are isolated not only by cultural barriers and attitudes, but by the human services industry. He is a consultant specializing in supports for people who experience developmental disabilities and who exhibit troubling behavior. David has consulted with families and professionals throughout the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. He is currently the Editor of The Community Journal, a disability rights newsletter that focuses on building community. David lives in Blacksburg, Virginia with his wife Cyndi and two sons, Joe and Sam. You can read more about his practice at www.dimagine.com or check the articles in Net News.

They will play the Romance from Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Suite No. 2 and Richard Rodney Bennett’s Suite for Two Pianos which includes Samba triste, Country blues, Ragtime waltz (Homage to Scott Joplin), and the Finale: Tempo di hard rock.
The campus is invited to attend.They will perform the same program at the Seattle Art Museum on Thursday, March 6 at 12:00 noon. The concert is free.

David Pitonyak present on ways in which people who experience disabilities are isolated not only by cultural barriers and attitudes, but by the human services industry. He is a consultant specializing in supports for people who experience developmental disabilities and who exhibit troubling behavior. David has consulted with families and professionals throughout the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. He is currently the Editor of The Community Journal, a disability rights newsletter that focuses on building community. David lives in Blacksburg, Virginia with his wife Cyndi and two sons, Joe and Sam. You can read more about his practice at www.dimagine.com.

King County Councilmember Larry Gossett will speak about the Prison Industry Complex and the disproportionate number of Blacks in our jails and prisons.

NOMINATIONS FOR FACULTY AND STUDENT COMMENCEMENT SPEAKER
The Commencement Committee is requesting nominations for student and faculty speakers. Speakers will be selected based on their accomplishments and potential to deliver meaningful, thought-provoking messages to graduates and guests. Nomination forms are available in the Student Programs office and at the Information Desk in the FOSS building (5200). Please participate in this important nomination process. Nominations are due by February 20, 2003, and can be turned in at the Information Desk in Enrollment Services or the Student Programs office in the PUB. Commencement 2003 will be celebrated June 8, 2:00 p.m., in the SCC gymnasium.

VARSITY BASKETBALL GAMES vs. EDMONDS
Wednesday, February 19; 5:30 women's game, 7:30 men's game in the Gymnasium
Both of the College's basketball teams are fighting for a spot in the playoffs as the season winds down. Come and support your teams as they square off against Edmonds in a north-end showdown. The men's team defeated top ranked Whatcom on Saturday and a win over Edmonds would greatly improve their playoff hopes. The women's team is still in the playoff picture, but they need to win their remaining three games in order to have a chance. Admission is free to all students and campus employees.

CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY MONTH

The Black Student Union will show Sarafina, a movie depicting the struggle of youth fighting Apartheid in South Africa. Very educational and entertaining.

Thursday, February 20th, 2003, 11:30 am in the Student Lounge
Dr. Ernest Johnson will be giving a lecture on the little publicized participation of children and youth during the civil rights movement.

Wednesday, February 26th, 2003, 12:30 pm in the Fishbowl
BSU will provide information on AIDs amongst the African Diaspora and will sell fundraiser pins to raise money for the American Federation of Teachers African AIDs Campaign.

Friday, February 28th, 2003, 12:30 pm in the Student Lounge
King County Councilmember Larry Gossett will speak about the Prison Industry Complex and the disproportionate number of Blacks in our jails and prisons.

HOURLY AND STUDENT PAY DISTRIBUTION
Beginning with the March 14, 2003 payday, all hourly and student pay checks will be distributed at the Cashier windows, located in the FOSS building, second floor. The hours of distribution on payday will be 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. (Monday through Thursday) and 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Fridays. If you currently have your check mailed, this change will not impact you. Please bring photo ID to claim your paycheck. All unclaimed checks on payday will be mailed the following morning to your address on file with the Payroll Office.

All other employees (administrative, exempt, classified, full and part-time faculty) pay distribution location will remain unchanged.

The Weight Watchers at Work group would like to invite anyone who is interested in joining WW or finding out about WW to visit us on our last meeting of the session. Our next session is set to start on Thursday, 3/6/03, and will continue to be at 12:30. We have been meeting for 11 weeks and the total weight loss has been over 180 pounds.
