UPDATE ON THE PUB CONSTRUCTION: WALKWAY REMOVAL
This is a notice to the campus from Facilities.  The walkway between the front of the old PUB and the 1000 building will be unusable from today until possibly the start of classes.  The contractors are working to replace the conduit that runs underneath the sidewalk and requires them to tear this walkway apart.  All foot traffic will be re-routed along the west side of Building 1000. We're sorry for the inconvenience.

Additionally, we hope to replace the FOSS ramp with a crushed rock path that will run down the small hill and connect with the stairs by the Bookstore.  We hope this will relieve some of the foot traffic through the 3rd floor of FOSS. More updates will be provided as the information is available.  If you have questions, please contact Randy Stegmeier at x4503.

PARADE THANKS
Nice work to those who participated in the Celebrate Shoreline! Parade this past Saturday.  The parade entry, a joint effort with the Shoreline School District, received the "Best of Show" award.  Thanks to:  Amy Stapleton (coordinator), Lee Lambert, Edie Loyer Nelson, Bernice Vonnegut and husband, Mary Blanchett and daughter, Emily Stapleton, Mark Durfee, Barb Kristek, Victoria Lauber, Glenda Powell-Freeman, Jack Spirakes, and Judy Yu (parade participants), and Ken Noreen and the Marching 100 Band.  Thanks also to Amy and Jeff Omalanz-Hood for manning the booth at the festival.  It was a great day and a great community event. >Parade Photos 8/19/2006

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Effective September 1, Stuart Trippel will become the Acting Vice President of Administrative Services.  Stuart replaces Bev Brandt who retired  this summer .  All directors in Technology Support Services, Facilities, Safety &  Security, Financial Services & Budget, and Auxiliary Services will report to Stuart. I have also appointed Ritva Manchester to serve  as the Acting Development Director of the SCC Foundation, replacing Kae Peterson.  More on these announcements plus other personnel changes can be found in the August Net News.

On September 11-12, the President's Leadership Team will hold a retreat to discuss the critical issues for the coming year.  Among the many key issues to be discussed will be continuing our efforts to improve our operational efficiency and balancing the upcoming 2006-07 budget.  Over the past several months, the College has worked with the Classified Staff union as we have identified several positions for restructuring.  These decisions are not easy ones to make, and we have taken into consideration the impact that these staff reductions will have on our students.  The following positions will be eliminated in this next year:  Secretary, Science Division; Information Technology Technician 2, Lake Forest Park; Custodian, Facilities; and  Program Support  Supervisor I, Enrollment Services (currently vacant).  I have spoken with those people who will be affected by  these  decisions.

I ask the campus to keep a positive attitude as we focus on the challenges of the coming year. I will talk more about this and our opportunities during Opening Week.
