GREAT ENROLLMENT EFFORT
A special THANK YOU to the many people who participated in phoning students,
answering student questions, and responding in flexible ways to prevent
students committed to Shoreline from being dropped for non-payment. One
hundred thirty four (134) fewer students than last year were dropped due to
this personalized approach. It has been reported that there has never been
this much year to year difference making this effort significant. We made
up a lot of ground in securing enrollments for the fall but we still have
some ways to go.

MESSAGE TO THE CAMPUS
FROM ACTING PRESIDENT LEE LAMBERT
On August
19, in a Message to the Campus from the Board of Trustees, it was announced
that I would assume the role of Acting President effective September 1st.
This appointment precedes the appointment of an Interim President.
As the Acting President, it is my hope that the President’s Leadership Team
and I can begin to restore your confidence in the administrative
leadership of this College. We want to recognize that our faculty,
staff, and administrators – our human resources – are central to the
teaching, learning, and support of our students. Our people must be valued
and nurtured in order for our success to be assured.
To that end, PLT will develop a framework, a set of principles, that will
guide the PLT’s future actions. These principles will include open and
honest communications that allow for the exchange of ideas; fair,
reasonable, and consistent policies and procedures to guide decision making;
and mechanisms for holding us accountable in our jobs. Many of these
principles have been recommended by the Climate Task Force in their report
to the campus, and I want to honor their suggestions intended to improve our
campus climate.
Over the next several weeks, we as an institution have several very serious
issues to address regarding the 2005-06 budget. The College anticipates
approximately a $1.4 million to $1.9 million budget deficit based on current
enrollment data, increases to expenses, and other influences. An all-campus
meeting will be held on Friday, September 23rd to review several
budget scenarios and to seek your input. Our challenge is to present a
balanced budget to the Board of Trustees by September 28, 2005. Additional
information regarding our budget situation will be made available prior to
the all-campus meeting.
The PLT and I are committed to restoring a positive workplace environment
for faculty and staff. If you would like to ask a question or provide a
comment to share with us, an email account,
PLT@shoreline.edu has been established for this purpose. Please also
continue to read Day at a Glance for regular updates regarding our budget
situation and other issues affecting College operations.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
On Thursday, August 18th, the Board of Trustees
of Shoreline Community College accepted the
resignation of President Holly Moore,
effective September 1st. A
copy of press
release can be found on the College website.
We wish to thank Dr.
Moore for her many years of service
to the College as an instructor, dean, vice president, and president of this
institution. She has made many significant
contributions to Shoreline Community College and we
wish her success in her future endeavors.
We have asked
Lee Lambert, VPHR, to assume the role
of acting president until an interim president can be appointed. The
acting president will manage the critical day-to-day activities and
has been asked to ready the campus for an interim president. We will
be seeking input from the campus community as we work
to recruit someone to fill that position and
hope to be able make an
announcement in the
near future.
Very soon, the Board of
Trustees will assemble a Presidential Search Committee that will be composed
of many representatives of this college community. The Search Committee
will work over the next year to identify and recruit the
best candidate for the position of president,
who will carry out the mission of the College and the goals set forth in our
Strategic Plan.
We have six weeks to
prepare for fall quarter and the start of a new year. We, the Board of
Trustees, are excited about our future and will
be here to support our
College.

These principles will include open and
honest communications that allow for the exchange of ideas; fair,
reasonable, and consistent policies and procedures to guide decision making;
and mechanisms for holding us accountable in our jobs.

We, the Board of
Trustees, are excited about our future and will
be here to support our
College.
