COMMENCEMENT 2007 CAP AND GOWN ORDER
All SCC faculty and administrators - deadline, April
30th
Commencement will be held on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 2 p.m. in the gymnasium. We encourage your participation as a tribute to the dedication and achievements of our 2007 graduates.
The deadline for ordering caps and gowns is this Friday, April 30th. The Student Programs office is currently handling the orders for faculty and administrators or you can go online to order your commencement wear. Our cap and gown vendor, Herff Jones Cap and Gown, has set up an online ordering system that is very easy to complete for PC users on Internet Explorer, and somewhat slower for Mac and Netscape users.

are eligible to receive, the recommended financial aid file completion date
for 2007-2008 is April 30, 2007. Submit FAFSA-on-the-web (www.fafsa.ed.gov)

by 03/31/07 and submit all required items to our office by 04/30/07.
If you missed the priority date, you can still receive aid. Complete your

The Spring Student Success Fair will be on Wednesday, May 9th in the lower
level of the library. Representatives from Financial Aid, Advising and

ART XCHANGE May 3- June 30
Opening and Artist Reception: First Thursday, May
3, 5 - 8 pm
Professor Jane Winslow displays
photography on stretched canvas as part of a juried group show at the Pioneer
Square gallery ArtXchange. The
gallery
will present its first Juried Group Exhibition, featuring 12 artists from
across the country whose artwork reflects the diversity of influences
shaping today’s global ecology. Inspired by old and new, East and West,
cultures inherited and cultures discovered, these artists explore our
evolving world in paint, works on paper, photography, and installation.

Friday, May 4, 4:30-7:30pm, Auto Showroom
Come join the Parent Advisory Group of the Parent Child Center at this
year's "Beautiful Treasures" Silent Auction. The children are busy creating
artwork and the community has donated several items. The funds raised will
support field trips, enhancement programs and to update the security system.

You really won’t want to miss Splash 2007! Bring your friends and
family along for the celebration. This annual event brings together students and College employees to
celebrate our many accomplishments. Enjoy demonstrations, displays,
hands-on activities, performances and free food.
Enjoy short films produced by SCC students, a drama scene from
Brigadoon (this year’s College musical), a Hip Hop Elements Club
performance, clay throwing demos by Clay Club members, and the music of
Funkngroove. At the Expo, coordinated by our Campus Ambassadors, learn about
school programs, classroom projects, professor sabbaticals, club activities
and study abroad experiences. Everyone is invited to rap, read poetry,
etc. at an open mic. Student art will be featured at two campus sites
― the work of Associate of Fine Arts students will
be exhibited in the College Gallery (1000 Bldg.) and an exhibit in the
Visual Arts Bldg. (2000) lobby will feature additional student work.

KEN LAFOUNTAINE SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS
ANNOUNCED
The First Nations Club is proud to announce that Will Thompson and Bert
Jimenez are the first recipients of the Ken LaFountaine First Nations
Student Scholarship. The scholarship fund was established in the spring of
2006, following the loss of this esteemed man. These recipients exemplify
commitment to and involvement in First Nations communities. For more
information on this newly available scholarship, contact the Shoreline

AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE COMPETITION
Saturday, May 5, 9:00am Gymnasium - Main Gym
Come and enjoy a morning of Sign Language by 4 local High School teams, from
9:00 am to noon with lunch following. This is a Jeopardy format competition
using American Sign Language. Categories include deaf culture, map
directions, and finger-spelling and more. $5 admission fee.

SCC LEADERS IN THE CLASSROOM - SEARCHING
FOR THE HEART OF AMERICA
Tuesday, May 8, 2007, at 10:30 am in the Campus Theater
Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist, Jerry Gay shares photos and stories
at a lecture at Shoreline Community College.
Gay has driven 50,000 miles of America's highways and
back roads over a three-year period to document the often hidden realities
of our daily existence, capturing on film the heroic among us who appear to
live ordinary lives in ordinary places. Via these photographs and a sense
of humor and astute philosophical perceptions, Gay shares his uncommon
wisdom and reverence for life.
In addition to his newspaper photojournalist work for The Seattle Times, Gay
also has experience as a magazine and web site publisher, an educator and a
lecturer.

INTRUDER/SUSPICIOUS
PERSONS PROCEDURES
Shoreline Community College
maintains an open campus in the middle of a residential and park area
covering over 80 acres, creating unique challenges when dealing with
intruders on campus. Safety & Security has issued a series of procedures
should an intruder or suspicious person be reported. These procedures can

STTACC EXEMPLARY STAFF AWARD
Nominations Due May 11, 2007
STTACC Exemplary Staff Awards have been established to provide
annual recognition of community and technical college staff, and these
distinguished awards will serve as an accolade to recognize one of the most
critical attributes to a successful institution.
Nominees for the STTACC Exemplary Staff Award should have
consistently demonstrated commitment and excellence in job performance and
dedication to the mission and goals of their institution, as well as
dedication to the professional development of the classified staff on their
campus.
Award recipients will be honored at the Annual STTACC Conference and
will have their conference registration fee waived for this year's

NETWORK DOWNTIME NOTICE
TSS will be upgrading the network core equipment beginning at 6:00 PM this
Sunday, April 29th. This procedure is expected to take between 90 minutes
and 3 hours to complete. During this time the campus network and file
services will be shutdown. Access to the campus web sites, email and HP3000
will remain available for off campus users. If you have an questions or
concerns regarding this shutdown, call or email Gary Kalbfleisch at x5813 or

COMMENCEMENT 2007 CAP AND GOWN ORDER
All SCC faculty and administrators - deadline, April
30th
Commencement will be held on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 2 p.m. in the gymnasium. We encourage your participation as a tribute to the dedication and achievements of our 2007 graduates.
The deadline for ordering caps and gowns is this Friday, April 13th. The Student Programs office is currently handling the orders for faculty and administrators or you can go online to order your commencement wear. Our cap and gown vendor, Herff Jones Cap and Gown, has set up an online ordering system that is very easy to complete for PC users on Internet Explorer, and somewhat slower for Mac and Netscape users.

Come and enjoy a morning of Sign Language by 4 local High School teams, from

SCC LEADERS IN THE CLASSROOM - SEARCHING
FOR THE HEART OF AMERICA
Tuesday, May 8, 2007, at 10:30 am in the Campus Theater
Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist, Jerry Gay shares photos and stories
at a lecture at Shoreline Community College.
Gay has driven 50,000 miles of America's highways and
back roads over a three-year period to document the often hidden realities
of our daily existence, capturing on film the heroic among us who appear to
live ordinary lives in ordinary places. Via these photographs and a sense
of humor and astute philosophical perceptions, Gay shares his uncommon
wisdom and reverence for life.
In addition to his newspaper photojournalist work for The Seattle Times, Gay
also has experience as a magazine and web site publisher, an educator and a
lecturer.

maintains an open campus in the middle of a residential and park area
covering over 80 acres, creating unique challenges when dealing with

The Puget Sound Blood Mobile will be on campus, Tuesday, April 24 from

maintains an open campus in the middle of a residential and park area
covering over 80 acres, creating unique challenges when dealing with

The Puget Sound Blood Mobile will be on campus, Tuesday, April 24 from

STUDENT ANDY BRYANT BEATS PERSONAL BEST
IN BOSTON MARATHON
Shoreline Community College student and Special Olympian, Andy Bryant,
ran the Boston Marathon on April 16th, completing the 26.2 mile race in
just over three hours. The 25 year-old beat his personal best by nearly
three minutes, placing 1,372nd out of more than 20,000 runners.
Andy participates in the College's Community Integration Program.

IBB AND MOU’s: WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN? (1st OF 3 IBB
COMMUNICATIONS)
How can we successfully resolve contractual workplace issues? From Fall
2005-Spring 2006, the College Administration and the Shoreline Community
College Federation of Teachers (SCCFT) negotiated issues related to faculty
work. Specifically, these issues concerned faculty advising work, faculty
counseling work as well as Advising and Counseling space. During the next
several weeks, three articles will be posted on DAAG. The first article is
from College President Lee Lambert and Federation President Karen Toreson.
It explains the IBB process and the meaning of MOU’s.

GOV. GREGOIRE ASKS WASHINGTONIANS TO JOIN HER IN A
MOMENT OF SILENCE

A message from the Governor's office was received by the College.
The
Governor asks for one-minute of silence, or tolling of the bell, on Friday, April 20.
OLYMPIA – Governor Chris Gregoire, in solidarity with the Commonwealth of Virginia, today asked all Washingtonians to observe one-minute of silence at 9:00 a.m. PDT (12:00 p.m. EDT) on Friday, April 20, 2007, in memory of the victims of the tragedy at Virginia Tech.
“As governor and the parent of a college student, my thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends who have lost loved ones, the students, faculty and staff at Virginia Tech who are in shock that something like this could happen on their campus, and the entire Commonwealth of Virginia, which I know is struggling to make sense out of this senseless act of violence,” said Governor Gregoire.
Governor Gregoire on Tuesday ordered all Washington state flags be lowered to half-staff until the morning of Monday, April 23, 2007, in memory of the victims of the Virginia Tech tragedy.

The Sustainability Committee will lead a
discussion with the campus regarding the importance of sustainability
and its implications to our College. This key initiative was introduced
by President Lambert at our Opening Week session. As a charter member
of Seattle's Climate Partnership, the College is committed to developing
practices to reduce our carbon footprint. The Committee will facilitate
group "brainstorming" sessions and will consider your ideas to develop a
College sustainability plan.
