April in the Library/Media Center

The 32nd President of the United States governed the nation at a pivotal time of national and international history: the Great Depression and World War II. Disabled by polio, he successfully hid his inability to walk from the public, becoming the only American President to serve 4 consecutive terms. When he died in April 1945, he was mourned around the world. The display highlights important events of his presidency and the tumultuous years of 1933-1945. Pictures of this display were submitted to the History Channel as part of a display contest. For our participation, the library will be awarded a DVD of the History Channel's special television presentation: "FDR, A Presidency Revealed".

Episode 3- The House We Live In
Video Series:  RACE:  The Power of an Illusion, provocatively questions the very idea of race as a biological phenomenon.  Yet race still matters.  Just because race doesn't exist in biology doesn't mean it isn't very real, helping shape life chances and opportunities.
If race is not biology, what is it?  This episode uncovers how race resides not in nature but in politics, economics and culture.  It reveals how our social institutions "make" race by disproportionately channeling resources, power, status and wealth to white people.

SPRING CLEANING
The server, that you all save your files, pictures and etc., is fast approaching overload and your assistance is needed. TSS is requesting that the Shoreline staff and faculty perform some spring cleaning. Store to disk or burn to CD any files or other items in your home directory (the H drive) that can be archived. Once this archive has been performed, please delete these files or other items from your home directory. Delete any files or folders in your home directory which you are no longer using; every byte helps. If you should notice a Eudora folder in your home directory and you are using Outlook as your mail client, you can delete the Eudora folder; this will also free up disk space on the server. Now would also be a good time to go through your Outlook mailbox to remove unnecessary messages and attachments. Please call the TSS helpline at ext. 5872. If you have questions or need assistance.

TESTING, TESTING, TESTING
The Public Information Office is developing a new calendar for internal use by faculty and staff.  The College Committees calendar will give you a look at today's meetings and others coming up.  Links to governance committee websites are also available, making it easier to track key issues being discussed.  The system is being tested.  At sometime in the future, we will have a "unified" calendar that will list all events, committees, academic deadlines, and student activities - all on one calendar.  Please send Judy Yu your reactions to the calendar and how it might be of use to you.  Email: jyu@shoreline.edu.
