“As Gov. Gregoire said a week ago, ‘This is dire,’” Shoreline Community College President Lee Lambert said Thursday afternoon, Nov. 19, 2009. “The previous forecast put the problem at $1.8 billion, but most people thought it would slide to at least $2 billion, maybe a little more. This is worse than we expected.”  Read more at On Campus page.

Faculty art instructor Laura Ward and students in her Art 110 class invite the campus community to enjoy their sculpture work, which has been installed around campus and will remain up until the end of the quarter (weather permitting - periodic checks will be made to ensure they are intact).

The Intro to 3D Design class focuses on creating three-dimensional objects from two-dimensional sketches or images. The pieces have been placed strategically around campus so as not to harm the foliage, grass, or stop the flow of foot traffic.  There are approximately 16 sculptures total and each has a sign with a description of the piece and the student artist's name.  Read more at Arts page.

THEFT ALERT
Although we all know we need to be mindful about putting our personal items in a safe place at work, sometimes we are reminded to do so by those who take advantage of us.  On Monday of this week, two employees returned to their desks after having been gone only a short time and only across the hallway, to find their wallet and cell phones gone. Two other similar incidents occurred earlier this fall in employee offices in the 2800 and 2900 buildings.  Read more at On Campus page.

FREE SCREENING OF "FINDING PLAYLAND" FILM
7pm, Tuesday, December 1, SCC Theater

Free Screening of FINDING PLAYLAND -
an hour-long neighborhood documentary exploring what it meant to work and play with the family at Seattle's long-lost Playland Amusement Park on the shores of Bitterlake, just off Aurora avenue at 130th St. in North Seattle.  Open from 1930 until 1960, generations of Seattle kids were thrilled by rides such as the Shoot the Chutes and the Big Dipper.  Regional amusement parks such as Playland were a characteristic feature of American urban centers at this time and Playland's story reflects opportunities and changes in American history.

Frenetic Productions is an award-winning Seattle-based film production company.  Their most recent release, THE VIOLIN MAKER, took honors at the 2009 International Documentary Challenge and has been screened at the Port Townsend Film Festival.  The film is available to view in its entirety at: http://www.freneticproductions.com/.

A short Q&A with director, Greg Brotherton, will follow screening. DVDs will be available for $10. Details at http://www.findingplayland.com/.
